Original 19th century wooden firkin with an elaborate hand-painted bird, floral, and foliate decoration, which appears to have been added later, likely during the early 20th century (circa 1900–1930), when the firkin was repurposed as a sewing/work basket. At that time, the interior was likely fitted with its floral textile lining and divided storage pockets
Vintage Large Painted Wooden Firkin Bucket/Sugar Pail With Lid and Handle. Decorated in Lovely, Primitive Folk Art Designs Including Florals and Birds on Branches. Amazing Piece of Country Kitchen Decor! Interior of Bucket has been Converted into a Sewing Notions or Knitting Container, with the Addition of Floral Fabric Gathered into Pockets.
Shows Signs of Wear Consistent with Age and Use. Banding on Bucket has Become Loose in Several Areas and Edges have Splits Present. There is a Loose Wire Between the Bottom Banded Sections. Paint is Chipping and Cracking. Interior Fabric is Stained/Discolored. Boards on Lid Slightly Loose. Scratches, Scuffs and Slight Paint Fading Noted.
