SCARCE Antique Victorian Mechanical Flip-Style Photo Album Viewer Revolving 1800

A very hard-to-find mechanical revolving "flip-style" photo album. I was only able to locate one other example of this unusual design.

The viewer operates by grasping the wooden knobs and rotating the album upside down. Inside are sliding photo frames that automatically advance as the album revolves, revealing two new photographs with each turn. The mechanism accommodates four cabinet cards at a time—two visible on each side.

Includes the cabinet card photographs shown, although not all frame openings are occupied.

Features a total of 13 sliding frames, three of which are currently empty.

Please note that one viewing panel is missing its original glass. The wooden knobs show a few small chips and areas of wear consistent with age and use.

This album was likely originally mounted on a stand or base that allowed it to rotate freely. The stand is no longer present, though the album can still be operated by hand. A replacement stand could be fabricated if desired.

The original locking mechanism has been removed. Access to the interior is currently gained by removing the screws securing the case.

Measures approximately 16" tall x 10" wide x 3" deep, with an overall width of approximately 13" from knob to knob.

Displays honest age-related wear throughout. The original embossed paper/leatherette covering exhibits substantial flaking, edge loss, lifting, and areas of delamination, exposing the wood beneath in places. Additional scuffs, scratches, and surface wear are present from years of use and handling.
