RARE Vintage Syracuse Plows Smaltz Painted Wooden Sign 10ft Farm John Deere Sign

An exceptional survivor that was salvaged from an old garage storage cabinet. At some point in its history, this original Syracuse Plows advertising sign was cut into two sections and repurposed as the side panels of a homemade cabinet, inadvertently preserving it for decades. It retains its original smaltz-painted finish and displays wonderful character throughout.

Circa 1905 to 1912, and was likely manufactured shortly before or around the John Deere acquisition of the Syracuse Chilled Plow Company in 1911.

A portion of the "S" in SYRACUSE had been covered with gray paint. I carefully removed some of the overpaint by hand, but additional restoration could likely improve its appearance further if desired.

The sign measures approximately 116" long x 11" tall when both sections are placed together. Each individual section measures approximately 58" long.

Condition is consistent with its age and remarkable history. There is slight loss along the lower margin beneath the letters "ACUS," along with nail holes, surface dirt, grime, scratches, scuffs, paint wear, and other signs of age and use.
