ANTIQUE AMERICAN 1846 DATED NEEDLEWORK FOLK ART SAMPLER BY FRANCES MOSS

Great piece of pirmitive Americana, signed and dated 1846 by Frances Moss, 8 years of age.

Recently aquired and the previous owner had said they picked up this piece many years ago in South Carolina or Tennesee (couldn't recall exactly). I found a "Frances Moss" born in 1838 in the 1870 Census Report with a listed residence of Granville, North Carolina. And based on the infomation on where it was purchased by the previous owner, it is very likely that this identifcation matches.

With the frame, it measures 16.5" by 19.5"

Sampler itself is approx. 11.5" by 13"
