RARE Antique Torchlight Parade Marching Torch Political Campaign Grant Civil War
RARE Antique c1868 Torchlight Parade Marching Torch Political Campaign Ulysses S. Grant? Civil War Era
Very cool piece of history here! Original Civil War Era torchlight parade marching torch. Based on information I could find on the internet, the Smithsonian dates this style fuel reservoir to circa 1868, possibly connecting this to President Ulysses S. Grant’s numerous torchlight parade rallies held during his campaign. Carved into the wood is “C.R.” and “6”. Hammer is broken off. A chunk out of the top was broken and repaired with glue as shown. Some light wear including a few dings in the reservoir but good overall condition!
