The side hoses and string hose are replacements; however, the original nozzle remains with the truck.

This example was acquired directly from the original owner, who stated that the toy had never been repainted, restored, or touched up during his ownership. I have also carefully examined the truck under blacklight and found no evidence suggesting repaint or restoration. Based upon my own examination, I believe the finish to be original; however, I am not a professional toy authenticator and cannot guarantee originality with absolute certainty. As with any antique toy of this age, prospective buyers should carefully review all photographs and make their own determination regarding originality and condition.

Condition is truly outstanding. The only notable issue is one broken hose holder bracket. Otherwise, the cast iron body is free of cracks, breaks, fractures, or repairs. The nickel-plated boiler presents beautifully, and the paint retains an exceptional appearance with only honest, age-appropriate handling wear. The casting details remain remarkably crisp throughout, making this one of the finest Kenton Fire Pumpers I have had the opportunity to offer.

Please review all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the description and accurately represent the condition of this exceptional antique toy.

A few of my obervations regarding the finish:

The appearance of the finish may be consistent with naturally aged oxidized japan enamel, as original baked japan finishes can gradually lose much of their original wet gloss over many decades while retaining a smooth, satin-like appearance. Based on my own examination, I found numerous characteristics that, in my opinion, support the possibility of an original finish.

The casting details remain exceptionally crisp throughout the truck, including the fine horizontal grille louvers, raised lettering, and other intricate details. In my opinion, a restoration involving aggressive bead blasting or stripping to bare metal would likely have softened or rounded some of these finer casting characteristics. Additionally, the paint breaks naturally along the hood casting seam without evidence of paint bridging or filling the joint, and the truck exhibits light, age-appropriate wear and oxidation along exposed front edges and high points that appears consistent with decades of careful handling.

I also carefully examined the toy under blacklight and found no obvious evidence of repaint, touch-up, or restoration. While these observations, together with the original-owner provenance, give me confidence in the finish, blacklight examination alone cannot conclusively authenticate original paint, and I am not a professional toy authenticator. Accordingly, these comments are offered solely as my personal observations, and prospective buyers are encouraged to examine all photographs carefully and rely on their own expertise when evaluating originality.

https://brothersantique.com/products/rare-vintage-1920s-kenton-fire-pumper-truck-cast-iron-toy-superb-example
